My Family Quilt

'My Family Quilt' is what I refer to as my genealogy research. I started this work back in the early 1970's along with my Father, Wyatt Hampton 'Hamp' Harbin. He was actually the one that got me started, by his wanting to learn 'where his Harbin family came from.' He and I spent many hours & days traveling from one county to another, to libraries, Court Houses, Churches, Cemeteries, all in the name of our Harbin family. I can still see the smile on daddy's face, when we would find a tidbit of information, and then the days that we didn't uncover any facts, the look of dismay, and the determination to go out again the next day and repeat the process...over, and over, and over again.

My father is gone now, he passed away on the 17th of January 1984, at VA Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. I had always told him that I would never give up on his Harbin family, and that someday I would find out 'where his Harbin family came from' and much more about them and their connecting families. My work still goes on today. I must add that the research is a lot more accessible today (2007) that it was in the early part of 1970, what with the Internet, more libraries that have expanded their genealogy department, and all the wonderful people who are so willing to share their research.

Genealogy is part of my life, something that I work on each day in some way or fashion, and I enjoy helping others to search for their family as well as my own and do so very often! That's why I call it "My Family Quilt," if you stop and think about it, that is what a family is, quilt pieces all joined together to make one big Quilt

I would like to say "Thank You" to everyone who has been a help to me along the way & to all of those that have willing shared their stories and research notes with me through the years. And a special "thanks" to my husband, Buddy and my loving children all for having shared me through the years with my "other love," my family genealogy research, that has absorbed so much of my time.
